CAMPUS SUMMARY
Duke is a church-affiliated university. Founded as the Union Institute in 1838, it was reorganized as a teachers college in 1851, became a liberal arts college in 1859, and was renamed Duke University in 1924. Programs are offered through the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering, and the Graduate School. Its 9,350-acre campus, is located in a residential section of Durham.
